Billions of dollars in bailouts, means for the most part that the taxpayers, without a choice, are buying companies in free fall. Most of these companies are going to recover after a very long period, if they do at all. The influence of some lobbyists is to the greatest stent the cause of all problems. By definition, their role is to protect their customer’s interests regardless of the general good. By achieving that, they create entrance barriers and consequently inefficiencies. If the entrance barriers are big enough to discourage competitors the problem becomes worst, because now if these companies fail, there is no one able to fulfill their role. The same lobbyists are the ones looking for a bail out for their customers now. As they are extremely well connected and have big wallets, the downhill spiral continues and there is nothing except a really big shock that can change this situation.
